A

Action Economy: A system of managing and utilizing limited actions and/or resources that players have during their turns to make strategic decisions.

Analysis Paralysis: A state of an individual in which excessive analysis of a situation cause decision-making to become paralyzed, meaning that no course of action is decided upon within a natural time frame. It is the result of overanalyzing or overthinking a situation.

Blind Bidding: A format designed to prevent bias and maintain privacy where bid amounts are hidden during the active bidding phase.

Boss Battler: A type of game where players work together to defeat a powerful enemy or monster, often referred to as the “boss.” These games typically involve strategic planning, character abilities, and cooperative gameplay to overcome challenging encounters.

C

Campaign Game: A series of connected game sessions where players progress through a storyline, making decisions that affect the outcome of the game.

Crowdfunding: The process of raising money from a large number of people, typically through a website, for a project or small business. Platforms commonly used for board games include Kickstarter, Gamefound, and BackerKit.

D

Deck-building Game: A board game where construction of a deck of cards is a main element of gameplay. Typically, players continue to build their deck during the game.

Glass Cannon: A character or object that is extremely powerful offensively yet is also extremely weak defensively.

Miniature (or Mini): A small figure/model designed to represent characters, units, or elements within the game.

P

Pledge: A financial commitment made by a backer to support a project on a crowdfunding platform, typically in exchange for rewards or products related to that project.

Push Your Luck (or Press Your Luck): A mechanic where players must decide between settling for existing gains, or risking them all for further rewards, in a game with some amount output randomness or luck.

Standee: A self-standing display, often made of cardboard, used to represent characters or elements in tabletop games.

Sundrop: A painting technique used to highlight a miniature with a wash or glaze to enhance details and depth. This method is popular for its ability to make miniatures look more dynamic and visually appealing.

T

Tank: A tank is a character designed to absorb damage and protect other players by drawing enemy attacks away from them. Tanks typically have high health and defensive capabilities, allowing them to endure hits while supporting their team.
